Leading online gambling and sports betting operator, PowerPlay is switching its focus to Ontario, as this week, the company launched a new iGaming website for the province. The local market represents a huge point of interest for the brand due to its passion for North American and European sports, making it a perfect fit for the online casino platform.
It should be explained that Ontario’s market for online gaming and sports wagering debuted only in April 2022 but it is already among the top five jurisdictions for iGaming in North America. Overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, in the first twelve months of operations it saw a stunning total betting volume exceeding CA$35.5 billion.
New Website is Now Up and Running
PowerPlay’s iGaming platform boasts a wide selection of table games, slots, and live dealer games. But is also worth noting that the website concentrates on core products such as ice hockey, basketball, football, baseball and soccer. Now, Ontarian bettors will be able to put their wagers on their preferred sport before a game or during the game itself.
Once logged into the website, Ontarians will be introduced to localized and secure content which is aided by geolocation technology. In addition to that, the company has also debuted new mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. Payments will remain unchanged in the new version, and players will still be able to deposit via banks or via Interac, credit cards, debit cards and Paysafecard.
CEO of the gaming brand, Dean Serrao commented that the company’s teams have put an immense amount of effort into delivering the best possible experience for bettors in the new site. He also added that the fact that players can now seamlessly access the iGaming platform across multiple localized instances will further ensure an enhanced experience.
Mr. Serrao also said that the Canadian gambling market was a major target for the company since its launch in 2018. He noted that the debut in Ontario was a major milestone for the company’s goals. Lastly, he said he was proud of the continued commitment of the staff to get the company to this point of providing exceptional and localized experiences for players in Ontario.
iGaming Sector Raises Concerns
Despite the success of the online gambling sector in Ontario, there have been some alarms about its possible downsides. The first one was recently mentioned by experts and it is potential match-fixing. Specialists believe that due to the lack of exact laws to prevent it, match manipulation is a real possibility and the province should prepare for it.
The other one is the barrage of betting ads during sports games, alarming experts and adults as children watch them. That is why AGCO has proposed banning the use of sports stars in gambling commercials. It also intends to prohibit the participation of cartoon figures, symbols, role models, social media influencers, celebrities or entertainers.
